Work / Case study

Multi-site for Citrus-Lime.

Each Citrus-Lime account runs one website. We built Site Sync so one catalogue can run several, each set up for its own country.

01

One account, one website

Citrus-Lime runs the tills, stock and websites of independent shops across the UK. Each account gets one website, which is fine until a shop wants to sell in another country.

Redpost Equestrian, a riding shop in Devon, wanted a US site. A second Citrus-Lime account gives a shop a second site, but none of the work that makes the first one sell. Every product page, category, filter, collection and menu would have to be done again by hand, then changed in two places whenever anything changed. With tens of thousands of products, that isn't workable.

02

One catalogue, several sites

Site Sync is part of Turbo MT, our product tool for Citrus-Lime shops. It links a shop's main Citrus-Lime account to up to five others and keeps their web content in step: product pages, categories, filters, collections and menus. Links are rewritten to point at the right site, and any it can't place are flagged for someone to check.

The first time it meets a product, it finds the same one on the other account by its lookup code. From then on Site Sync remembers the pair, so a changed code never quietly links the wrong product. If a linked product goes missing, it's flagged for someone to sort out.

Categories and filters are matched by name, under the same parent, and a match someone has set by hand is never changed by a refresh. A product whose category has no match on the other site isn't sent until someone picks one, or marks it as safe to leave out.

03

Written for the country it's sold in

A UK product page doesn't read right in America. Horse rugs are blankets there, and riding hats are helmets. Colour is color. And a customer in Kentucky can't collect from a shop in Devon.

So Site Sync uses AI to change only the words that need changing. These are real examples from its tests.

It's told never to touch a size, lookup code or safety standard, and to leave anything that doesn't need changing exactly as it was. Then Turbo MT checks every rewrite before it's used. Links and images must come back untouched, a plain-text field can't gain HTML, and product names must meet Citrus-Lime's rules. If a rewrite fails, that product isn't updated and the failure is logged.

04

What goes where

Every sync works out what it will do before it does it, and any sync can be run as a dry run first, to see exactly what would change. Creating new categories or menus on the other site stays off until the shop turns it on.

Rules can hold back a product, a brand, a season, or anything sold only for Click & Collect, for one site and not another. If a product that's held back is already live on the other site, Site Sync takes it down. In Turbo MT, every product says whether it will go to the US site and, if not, why.

05

Where it is now

Redpost's US site runs from its UK catalogue. Site Sync has synced 32,600 products and matched 9,400 categories, filters and menus. It checks products for changes every hour and categories and menus every night, and a product goes across the moment it's put live in Turbo MT.

We built it with Redpost, and it works for any Citrus-Lime shop on Turbo MT: the main site plus up to five more, each with its own rules and its own instructions for the copy.
